First, a correct diagnosis must be made, one drawing on a history of long and varied experience in the profession. The proposed treatment must take into account the latest technology, in terms of paint analysis and varying approaches to the problem of the painting's support. An awareness of the particular properties of the painting in hand, it's technique, tonal values and condition are also essential.
